Overview
Non-financial reporting provides transparency into business performance by tracking operational metrics that are not directly tied to financial results. These metrics help organizations measure performance, identify trends, set goals, and better understand the factors influencing financial outcomes.
Financial reports alone don't always tell the complete story. For example:
- Why did sales revenue decrease during a particular month?
- Why did operating cash increase in Q2?
Non-financial reporting helps answer these questions by providing operational context. For example, if marketing efforts underperformed during a given month, that impact may later be reflected in quarterly financial results.
Notes:
- Non-Financial Sync (NFS) must be enabled by a Qvinci account administrator. If your account does not have this feature, contact Qvinci Support.
- Reporting period may very if an accounting calendar is in place
- Microsoft Excel 2007 or later is required.
- If you are familiar with syncing financial data through Excel, Non-Financial Sync uses the same synchronization engine, making the process nearly identical.
Generate the Template for the Selected Entity
Step 1: Log in as the Entity Syncer and navigate to Manage > Entities.
Step 2: Select the entity you want to sync.
Step 3: Select the Non-Financial Sync tab.
Step 4: Click Generate Template.
Step 5: Open the downloaded template in Microsoft Excel.
Note: If the Non-Financial Sync tab is not available, either:
- You are not logged in as the Entity Syncer, or
- Non-Financial Sync has not been enabled for your account
Review Required Formatting Rules
The template must follow these formatting requirements to sync successfully:
- Account placement: account names must appear between the Non-Financial and Total Non-Financial rows. These rows are included in the template and must not be deleted. Additional account rows may be inserted above the Total Non-Financial row.
- Unique account names: every non-financial account name must be unique.
-
Parent and child accounts: if your data includes parent and child accounts, each parent account requires both a header row and a matching total row
- Parent account headers: parent account header rows must remain completely blank and should never contain monthly values.
- Data requirements: each non-financial account and total row must contain data for at least one month. Accounts without activity may contain 0 values.
Enter Non-Financial Data in the Template
Step 1: Click Enable Editing in the yellow notification bar.
Step 2: Click Enable Content to allow the template macros to run. Macros are required for a successful sync.
Step 3: Open the appropriate NF worksheet for the year you are syncing (for example, NF19 for 2019 or NF24 for 2024). The worksheet will contain any existing non-financial accounts or SCoA accounts, when applicable; otherwise, example accounts will be provided.
Step 4: Remove any accounts you do not need and add additional rows as necessary. All account names must remain between the Non-Financial and Total Non-Financial rows.
Step 5: Click any cell in the first blank column and select Set Start of Non-Financial Data. This automatically populates the month headers in Row 6.
Step 6: Enter monthly values for each account, then save the completed template. Each account row and total row must contain data for at least one month, and accounts with no activity may contain 0. The same template can be reused to update future months.
Step 7: Return to Manage > Entities > Non-Financial Sync. Under Sync Non-Financial Data, click Browse or Choose File, select the saved Excel template, and click Sync.
How to Create New Year Tabs
- New year worksheets become available beginning in December of the current year.
- If you are using a previously downloaded template, see Excel Sync Won't Upload After the New Year for instructions on creating a new worksheet for the new year.
Sync Non-Financial Data via API
Organizations that automate operational reporting can also integrate non-financial data into Qvinci using the Qvinci API.
The Qvinci API allows organizations to push financial and operational data directly into Qvinci, complementing the existing Qvinci Reporting API, which exports standardized Qvinci data into external applications. Together, these APIs provide a two-way flow of information, helping organizations maintain consistent reporting across their technology ecosystem.
API integrations can reduce manual file uploads while making non-financial metrics available alongside financial reporting within Qvinci.
If you'd like to learn more about API connectivity or discuss whether an API integration is right for your organization, please contact your Account Manager (AM) or Client Performance Manager (CPM).
Troubleshooting for Unsuccessful Syncs
Before contacting Support, verify that all of the following are true:
- All account names are located between the Non-Financial and Total Non-Financial rows.
- Every account name is unique.
- Parent account headers contain no data.
- Every account row and total row contains data for at least one month.
- Every parent account has a matching total row.
- Date headers have been created in Row 6 by selecting Set Start of Non-Financial Data.
If you continue to experience syncing issues, contact Qvinci Support and have a copy of your completed template available for troubleshooting.
